It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the SAARCLAW’s new website. We assure all concerned that we will make constant endeavour to update our website on regular basis.
SAARCLAW has assumed a significant role of a progressive regional apex body of SAARC in the legal arena. We are focussed upon the challenges posed by the need to deliver support to those in need of our assistance in South Asia. The increasing demands made upon us, whether driven by development of law, or in the expectations of the legal profession and those interested in law, require us to endow ourselves to discharge our functions by adopting good governance and professional management practices.
I hope that this website shall prove to be one of our valuable tools in enabling us to meet the needs of all concerned. I am also confident that the web site will play an increasingly key role as a platform for delivering information and services to the legal fraternity and those interested in our activities.
In the last one decade, South Asia has been a region in transition. This period of transition has seen us experience remarkable levels of law and policy reform. This reform has been particularly significant for many reasons, as the process has not only involved the reform of substantive legal framework but also the reform of both the legal establishments themselves and the legal professions that sustains it as well as the society that will ultimately benefit from greater legal knowledge of the system.
It cannot be ignored, the changes that have been realized in the field of economic legal regime including FDI, Bankruptcy, Capital Market, Copyright, Patent, Telecommunications, Corporate Sector, Anti-Cartelization, Oil and Gas all of which are intrinsically linked to South Asia’s development.
Reform in the economic laws field is projected to afford greater legal confidence for investors and support the creation of a community based on the rule of law.
SAARCLAW is desirous of performing a much more significant and noteworthy role in the coming times to facilitate law reforms in the South Asian region. The process requires not only endurance, but dynamism, strength, funds, time and an ongoing pledge to accomplish something. I am already determined to dedicate myself to this cause and make a new beginning. As Plato has put it so aptly, `the beginning is the most important part of the work’.
Kind regards and Best wishes,
